Tech_Note: How to avoid discharge of servo motor in critical vacuum state?


For servo motors working in vacuum environment, in a specific vacuum pressure range (generally 1 ~ 1000Pa), when the electrode voltage reaches a certain critical value (the breakdown voltage critical value is related to the electrode material and shape, electrode spacing, gas composition and content in the vacuum, generally 100V~550V), there is a risk of vacuum discharge. The leakage switch protection action of the device is caused.The following measures can effectively avoid the servo motor in the critical discharge under vacuum.

Measure 1: Use low-voltage DC coil servo motor

Even if the vacuum chamber passes the above critical state during the process of vacuuming or restoring atmospheric pressure, the servo motor with low voltage DC coil will not appear vacuum discharge. Therefore, for vacuum environment applications, it is recommended to choose low-voltage DC coil servo motor.

Kingsley KECM/KSSM series DC coil servo motor power and coil voltage are as follows:

100W: 24VDC,

400W: 24/48VDC

750W: 48VDC

Measure 2: The coil of the servo motor is not energized when it is in a critical state

When the vacuum chamber is vacuumed or the atmospheric pressure is restored to the critical vacuum state, the servo drive is powered off, or no enable signal is given to the servo drive, so that the servo motor coil is not energized, and the motor vacuum discharge can be avoided.

High power (1KW and above) servo motors are usually used with AC coils, and it is recommended to use this measure to avoid vacuum discharge.

The power and coil voltage of Kingsley KECM series high power servo motor are as follows:

1KW: single-phase 220VAC

1.8/3.8KW: Three-phase 380VAC (three-phase 220VAC can be customized)
